Our Midwife brings together knowledge, training, lived experience, and long standing reputable relationships with local healthcare facilities, providing a foundation of accessible support should it be required.
Matriarchal midwifery care is a reciprocal relationship. My role is not to direct your choices, but to walk beside you; holding trust in your innate wisdom and your capacity to meet each decision as it unfolds.
Throughout this journey you will be provided with clear information, thoughtful guidance, and steady presence to support you in navigating both familiar and unfamiliar pathways with confidence and discernment.
Our Midwife holds an expectation that you acknowledge, prioritise and create space for lifestyle and daily practices that support your female physiology and optimise your body’s capacity to nourish, birth and nurture your baby.
Are you ready to be met with presence, passion and trust as you bloom into motherhood?
Our Midwife walks “with” you to meet birth as an initiation, supporting your return to self and your inner authority.
Integrity and mutual self-responsibility are the foundational pillars of Matriarchal Midwifery Care on the journey to homebirth.
When a woman feels safe in her body, safe in her home and safe with her midwife, birth is more likely to unfold by physiological design.

Pregnancy visits take place in your home or at an agreed location, scheduled at mutually convenient times. Partners and siblings are welcome to be included as desired.
Regular pregnancy care visits commence following the initial booking appointment. Visits are typically monthly in early pregnancy, progressing to fortnightly and then weekly as you approach birth.
Each visit allows 1.5–2 hours, providing space for clinical care and wellbeing checks for you and your baby. These visits unfold in a bespoke way, to cater for your unique needs and may include conversation, guidance, inner work, debriefing, education or body work.
-
Our Midwife is on-call for birth from 37 weeks. Support is provided by phone and in your home as labour unfolds, with continuous support and presence for birth as required. Clinical monitoring of both you and your baby is provided throughout labour and birth.
A second midwife attends the birth and remains present for three to four hours following the birth. This is a legal and safety requirement and ensures appropriate care during birth and the immediate hours after.
-
Postpartum care is tailored to your individual needs, with frequent visits in the first week following birth, transitioning to weekly or fortnightly visits up to six weeks postpartum.
Postnatal visits focus on physical recovery, emotional wellbeing, birth debriefing, early parenting adjustment, and lactation support, with care centred on both Mother and baby. Postnatal visits also involve newborn wellbeing checks.
Extra phone support is available during the post-partum period as needed.
Please note: Our Midwife is a private midwifery practice led by registered and endorsed midwife Tanya Pensini. Care is provided in accordance with the Australian College of Midwives (ACM) Guidelines for Consultation and Referral and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) guidelines for privately practising midwives.
meet your midwifeHi, I’m Tanya
As a golden 50 year old, I have now been a midwife for more than half my life. The work I do with women nourishes my heart and fires my passion. Alongside my midwifery training and years of clinical experience, I bring a depth of presence that cannot be taught. I have a grounded capacity to meet women in their power without needing to manage or diminish it.
My work is informed by years of listening. To women, to birth, to the land, and to the subtle and deep intelligence of the female body. I am the steady anchor when intensity rises. Midwifery is not something I do. It is how I live, how I listen and how I serve women as they cross the most potent thresholds of their lives.
In 2020, I stepped into the path of private midwifery, offering homebirth support across the Atherton Tablelands and surrounding regions. My deepest and most formative learning came through a path of devotion, birthing my five children at home with a midwife between 1999 and 2011.
While my formal training began within the university and then hospital system, I courageously questioned all that I witnessed in the medicalisation of birth. I saw what was wrong and knew there was another way to midwife. Another way to birth.
Your Body is your Temple.
Your Womb is your Altar.
Birth is your Blessing.
I don't save women.
I SEE WOMEN.
I don’t coddle women
I HOLD WOMEN.
And in being seen and held women remember the roots of their wisdom and reclaim their voice.
Matriarchal Midwifery is for the woman who —
Desires continuity of care with a midwife who walks beside her rather than directing her journey
Values informed choice, autonomy, and embodied decision-making.
Is willing to prioritise her wellbeing and engage in practices that support her female physiology
Understands that trust is built through relationship, not transaction.
Sees pregnancy and birth as a rite of passage, not medical events to be managed
Is open to accountability for her body, her choices and her journey.
Is ready for reflection, responsibility, and deep relationship with her care provider.
Matriarchal Midwifery is not for the woman who —
Wants a purely clinical or checklist-based model of care
Expects decisions to be made for her or the responsibility to be carried by someone else.
Is unwilling or unable to engage in preparation or lifestyle support.
Is not in a position to invest in this journey.
Seeks care without boundaries, limits or reciprocal commitment

I know women are designed to create, birth, nourish and nurture life on this earth.
I believe birth is a sacred rite of passage. One that initiates us into motherhood. Birth sets the blueprint for the way we live and how we Mother. This carries lifelong significance for the health and well being of mothers, babies, families and communities.
The Deeper Making of Matriarchal Midwifery Care
Alongside formal midwifery training and clinical experience, this work has been shaped through mentorship, lived practice, and years of embodied inquiry into birth, feminine physiology, energy and the seasons of the land. These learnings are not applied as techniques, but inform how I listen, how I hold space, and how care is offered.
My path has been influenced by energetic birth preparation and frequency-based work, Human Design, Womb Continuum Care, Reconnected Birth principles, Optimal Maternal Positioning, childbirth education, homeopathy and herbal applications, traditional chinese medicine, movement, body biomechanics and practices that create space for babies within the body. It has also been shaped by sisterhood work, shadow integration, and shamanic ways of listening to women, to the body, and to what is asking to be met beneath the surface.
These strands come together quietly within matriarchal midwifery care — not as modalities to be delivered, but as ways of perceiving, attuning, and responding to what is present.
FAQ
-
The Bloom is Our Midwife’s signature offering of continuity of care for women holding intention to birth at home. Continuity of Midwifery care fosters consistency, familiarity, and ongoing support, allowing trust, understanding and connection to strengthen over time. Our Midwife upholds women’s right to bodily autonomy, right to informed choice and right to refuse.
While many women come with a clear vision for homebirth, this care also recognises the wild and unpredictable nature of pregnancy and birth. The focus remains on supporting women through this experience and their transition into motherhood, regardless of how birth unfolds.
Continuity of Midwifery Care is associated with lower rates of unnecessary interventions and provides better satisfaction and outcomes for mothers and babies.

Yes. It is currently legal in Australian for women to choose to homebirth. Privately practising midwives are required to meet safety and quality guidelines defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. However, there is currently no insurance or medicare rebate available for the homebirth component of private midwifery care. For this reason at Care Contracts are implemented at the commencement of care. I provide paperwork for you to register your baby with Medicare and for access to Centrelink payments. I also provide the Queensland health Baby record and instructions to register your baby and apply for a birth certificate.
-
I like to ensure that my energy is abundant and balanced with my output. For this reason I limit my commitment to 1-2 women (occasionally 3) birthing per month. I do have women contacting me even days before they miss their period. I also block out some months for self-love, holidays and professional development. So if you want to ensure availability, check in early or even in your planning phase pre-pregnancy.
